Solar Keymark Network’s 38th meeting: key resolutions and advancements in certification
The 38th Solar Keymark Network (SKN) meeting took place on March 11th and 12th, 2025, at the Laboratório Nacional de Energia e Geologia (LNEG) campus in Lisbon, hosted by LNEG and CERTIF. This hybrid event, chaired by SKN Chairman Andreas Bohren and SKN Manager Vasiliki Drosou, gathered professionals from Certification Bodies, Test Laboratories, and the solar thermal industry to discuss the development of the Solar Keymark scheme. .
The meeting featured a general part and multiple technical sessions, focusing on enhancing transparency and alignment within the certification process. Key topics included ensuring the proper use of the Solar Keymark label, revising the certification procedures and standards and updating the SK Scheme Rules.
The technical sessions provided a platform for members to exchange insights and address ongoing challenges. In the first session, Cheikh Faye led discussions on misuse and protection of the Solar Keymark label, and experts highlighted the need for stricter measures to prevent unauthorized use. The second session, hosted by Matteo Sartori, focused on improving conformity assessment rules. The meeting also marked the end of tenure for the SKN Secretariat’s Leopoldo Micò.
Throughout the event, the Network approved several resolutions and decisions aimed at strengthening the effectiveness and credibility of the Solar Keymark. Notably, there were resolutions to clarify the testing and certification of solar thermal products in relation to freezing risks and the handling of collectors. Other themes discussed were changes to factory inspection procedures, updates and management on the Solar Keymark database, and the approval of the projects financed under the Solar Certification Fund. The event provided valuable networking opportunities and set the stage for future collaborations and updates in the solar certification process.
